The movie 'The Duff' tells the story of Bianca, a wholesome, unassuming teenager who is friends with two beautiful, intelligent girls, making them the envy and talk of the entire school. Bianca's world is turned upside down when, at a party, she meets Wesley. He makes her painfully aware of her role as the 'sidekick,' less attractive and talented than her best friends. With this realization, and now fully aware of her place within her friend group, Bianca sets out to transform herself, determined to become a leader, an independent young woman. The original title, The Duff, stands for “Designated Ugly Fat Friend”. In Italian, it was adapted as the acronym A.S.S.O., which translates to “Amica, Sfigata, Strategicamente, Oscena” (Friend, Loser, Strategically, Obscene).
