The BFG (Mark Rylance) is a giant, a Big Friendly Giant, very different from the other inhabitants of Giant Country who, like Bloodbottler and Fleshlumpeater, feed on humans, preferably children.
And so one night, the BFG – who is a vegetarian and only eats Snozzcumbers and Frobscottle – snatches Sophie (Ruby Barnhill), a young girl living in London, and takes her to his cave. Initially frightened by the mysterious giant, Sophie soon realizes that the BFG is actually sweet, friendly, and can teach her wonderful things.
The BFG takes Sophie to Dream Country, where he catches dreams that he sends to children at night and explains all about the magic and mystery of dreams.
The affection and bond between the two quickly grow, and when the other giants are ready for a new rampage, the BFG and Sophie decide to warn none other than the Queen of England about the impending threat, and together they devise a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.
