Acclaimed director and screenwriter Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) pays homage to the queen of mystery, Agatha Christie, with Knives Out, an intriguing and timely whodunit where anyone and everyone could be the killer. An unpredictable film full of surprising narrative and stylistic twists.
Wealthy novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead under mysterious circumstances at his estate the morning after his 85th birthday party. Renowned detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), a man of extraordinary intuition and charisma, is assigned to the case and suspects foul play.
In classic crime fashion, the deceased's large family are all potential suspects, every single one of them: each with a compelling motive to eliminate Harlan Thrombey, a man whose experience and age had made him as shrewd as he was insightful. As the fateful day of the will reading approaches, Harlan's greedy and dysfunctional family proves to be far more complicated and contentious than initially appeared.
The family is a colorful cast of characters from opposing generations, with conflicting ages, goals, and lifestyles. When Marta (Ana de Armas), Thrombey's young and beautiful South American nurse, finds herself implicated in the mysterious case, it becomes clear that no secret is safe within the house, not even her own.
The film eschews a traditional structure, captivating with its continuous twists and turns, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
