3rd century BC. After his victory over the Persians, the Athenian hero Darius travels to the island of Rhodes to regain his strength. On the island, there is great discontent against King Xerxes, who commissioned the costly construction of the gigantic Colossus, erected to defend the harbor entrance as a warning to enemies. A group of conspirators convince Darius to seek the support of the Athenian Archons. But no ship can leave the island without Xerxes' permission. Darius seeks the help of Diala, daughter of the Colossus's builder, to allow him to break the harbor blockade, but Phoenician soldiers invade the city. The people bravely confront them and are about to drive them back when a sudden, terrible earthquake shakes the island…
