Twelve-year-old Conor O’Malley (Lewis MacDougall) loves to escape into a fantastical world populated by monsters and fairies. Due to his mother’s illness (Felicity Jones), he is forced to live with his grandmother (Sigourney Weaver), a cold and distant woman. He reluctantly attends school where he is constantly bullied by his peers. His father (Toby Kebbell) has started a new life in America, and Conor desperately needs someone to look after him.
Unwittingly, he summons an unlikely ally who emerges, in all his terrifying magnificence, from an ancient and imposing tree: a 12-meter-tall creature (brought to life by Liam Neeson’s extraordinary performance) that appears at his bedroom window every night, 7 minutes after midnight. The Monster tells many stories: Conor listens, his imagination bringing them to life.
Slowly, his fears give way to resourcefulness and introspection: the Monster has decreed that once its stories are told, it will be Conor’s turn to tell one. Ancient, wild, and relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth.
