Joe, a solitary gunman, arrives in San Miguel, a town on the border between Mexico and the United States. There, two families, the Rojos and the Morales, have been locked in a years-long war for control of alcohol and weapons smuggling. Through a complex web of betrayals, raids, and schemes, Joe pits them against each other, hoping they will eliminate one another. When discovered by one of the Rojos, Joe is mercilessly tortured. After managing to escape, he returns to San Miguel to exact ruthless revenge on the Rojos, who have massacred the entire Morales family.
