The film tells a story set during summer on a small island in southern Italy. In this reality, torn between modernity and backward traditionalism, the lives of three women unfold. Despite their significant differences, they are forced to band together to save themselves. Gilda (Claudia Gerini), a genuine beauty from the mainland, has been making ends meet for years by practicing the world's oldest profession; Olivia (Cristiana Capotondi), a picture-perfect young wife, beautiful and elegant, who draws the envy of other women for her idyllic life with a handsome husband; and Crocetta (Sabrina Impacciatore), the ugly duckling rumored to bring bad luck to any unfortunate soul who approaches her and tries to win her over. Complicating their lives is the arrival of a proud yet brusque police commissioner, Nico Malachia (Vinicio Marchioni). The commissioner senses that the three women are hiding a secret…
